While Subnautica 2 has delighted millions of players since its early access launch on May 14, some users are concerned about the terms included in the game’s EULA (End User License Agreement).
Indeed, internet users have highlighted some concerning clauses. For example, one of them stipulates that the publisher, Krafton, reserves the right to revoke access to the game at any time, for any reason. Another specifies that multiple licenses are required to play on different devices. The use of a VPN is also prohibited, and a player cannot receive a payout exceeding $50 if they suffer any damages.
However, there’s no need to worry too much, as EULAs often contain clauses that aren’t enforceable in court. The developers have also denied the alleged ban on mods in Subnautica 2. Sam Dark of Unknown Worlds was clear on this point.
“We will not be taking action against player made mods, as long as they follow the few simple rules Donya shared a while back (like not selling the mods). A bunch of us are in the modding discord, the studio was founded by modders and a few of our playtesters here are modders.”

It’s interesting to see how game developers are navigating user agreements in today’s landscape. Subnautica 2 has certainly captured a lot of attention, and it’s always good to stay informed about the terms we agree to. Looking forward to seeing how the community responds!
