One of the best comic book video games ever is getting a native Nintendo Switch 2 port, according to a leak via a ratings board.
Insomniac’s Spider-Man and its sequels might be the most popular video game adaptations of a Marvel superhero today, but there are plenty of other Marvel titles which deserve the spotlight.
Between Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Marvel Snap, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion, there are a surprising amount of great games from the comic book publisher over recent years. The weird thing is though that most of them were flops, and that includes 2021’s grossly underappreciated Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.
The action adventure game, developed by Eidos-Montréal, was met with critical acclaim and even won Best Narrative at The Game Awards, but it didn’t sell well at all – with the studio being sold off to Embracer Group less than a year later (in part because Marvel’s Avengers, by sister studio Crystal Dynamics, was also a flop).
However, publisher Square Enix seems to be planning to give the game a second chance at life, based on a newly discovered listing on a Taiwan ratings board.
As posted on ResetEra, a listing for Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy on Switch 2 has popped up on the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee, which didn’t get there by accidenta.

The game was previously released on the Nintendo Switch but only as a cloud version. This rating suggests a Switch 2 native port is in the pipeline, which will presumably announced soon – or the ratings board wouldn’t know about it.
Square Enix hasn’t announced any port yet, but it has been a strong supporter of Nintendo’s new console, with titles like Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, various Dragon Quest remakes, and the upcoming Adventures Of Elliot: The Millenium Tales.
This might not be the only Switch 2 port Square Enix has planned either. Earlier this year, there were rumours of a Kingdom Hearts collection on the console, which is also only available via the cloud on the original Switch.
While any chance of a sequel seems optimistic, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy certainly deserves far more success, with excellent storytelling and dialogue, decent combat, and a great soundtrack.
It looks set to be a big year for Marvel games generally, between Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls on August 6 and Marvel’s Wolverine on September 15, 2026. Wolverine will no doubt be a hit but whether Tōkon will suffer the same fate as other non-Insomniac Marvel games remains to be seen…
