2025 wasn’t just a good year for JRPGs. It was a year where the genre stretched in every direction at once without losing sight of where it came from. Sure, it helps that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 dominated many “Best Of” annual lists and cleaned up at the Game Awards. Aside from this new all-time great, some of the yearβs best JRPGs included the classic trope of heroes fighting a god, while others explored farming elements, tactical combat, and so much more.
