The addition of a new Final Fantasy XI zone is not out of the question yet

Originally released in Japan on PC and PS2 in 2002, and four years later on Xbox 360, Final Fantasy XI is an MMORPG that has fallen somewhat out of favor. Indeed, the community has largely shifted its attention to the fourteenth installment, which frequently receives expansions.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Yoji Fujito, the producer and director of Final Fantasy XI, was asked about the possibility of a new zone being added to the game. While this may not be possible in the near future, there is still hope. Square Enix must, however, ensure the feasibility of such a task.

“Currently, adding a new zone is impossible through standard channels due to a lack of sufficient ID slots. However, we know itโ€™s possible to free up a few additional ID slots with some ingenuity, so weโ€™re exploring potential solutions. If we succeed, adding a new zone will be feasible. At the very least, we cannot move forward without having firmly confirmed this possibility; that is why we have been conducting this study since last year and have already begun mobilizing our resources. Depending on the results, I feel that a project could be launched.”

For now, the devs are focusing first on the single-player experience.
