This weekend, Tetris 99 is hosting its 50th Maximus Cup, a limited-time event where players can win a new Kirby Air Riders theme. This is the sixth Cup of the year and the fourth to introduce a new theme, bringing the total number of Maximus Cup themes available to 40.
This time, by accumulating 100 points in Online Battle mode, which can be achieved through a single victory or by simply accumulating points, players will permanently unlock the theme, which includes custom music, visuals, and Tetrominos. This theme can be used in all modes after the event ends.
It runs from December 5, 2025, at 7 a.m. (London time) to December 9 at the same time.
Tetris 99, still popular nearly seven years after its launch, remains one of Nintendo’s few retro Battle Royale games still active, unlike Pac-Man 99 or Super Mario Bros. 35.
Tetris 99 is available for free on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
