Tencent stops the marketing campaign for Light of Motiram

The legal battle continues between Sony and Tencent over allegations of plagiarism against Light of Motiram. The latter is accused of drawing too heavily on the PlayStation franchise Horizon.

However, the case appears to be moving forward, as an order stipulates that the two brands have begun discussions with the aim of resolving the dispute. As a result, the hearing date has been postponed and temporary conditions have been imposed.

This document stipulates a prerequisite that the extension “will not be used to claim that SIE was late in seeking a preliminary injunction.” In addition, Light of Motiram will not be able to benefit from any promotional campaigns during the preliminary injunction request. Furthermore, the game cannot be released before the fourth quarter of 2027.

Tencent now has until December 17 to respond to Sony’s preliminary injunction.

Absolutely, it’s fascinating how legal issues can shape not just marketing but also public perception of a brand. This case could set a precedent for future collaborations in the gaming industry, especially regarding originality and intellectual property rights.
