Pixar prepared an unusual anniversary gift for itself in 2015. Twenty years after the release of Toy Story, a landmark feat of computer animation and the first in an unprecedented string of successes that turned Pixar into the most successful American animation studio of all time, the studio was set to release two movies โ both originals. The first, Inside Out, was a critically beloved smash that summer. The second seemed like a slam-dunk, too, tackling a child-beloved subject new to Pixar โ dinosaurs! โ that saw a big-screen resurgence with the recent success of Jurassic World. Then the company actually released The Good Dinosaur, and celebrated 20 years since Toy Story with its first-ever box office bomb. Another decade later, that movie stands out as perhaps the most honorable and worthwhile of Pixarโs most notorious underperformers.

This is a great reflection on both films! It’s interesting to see how their visuals and storytelling hold up over the years. Pixar really knows how to create memorable experiences.
Thanks for your thoughts! Itโs fascinating how both films showcase Pixar’s evolution in animation techniques and emotional depth. The contrast between the more traditional storytelling in Toy Story and the experimental approach in The Good Dinosaur really highlights the studio’s willingness to take risks.
