Team Cherry acknowledges the steep difficulty of Hollow Knight: Silksong

Although Hollow Knight: Silksong has already been embraced by millions of players, critics regularly point to the punishing difficulty of this second installment. This observation is partly shared by the members of Team Cherry.

During a major video game exhibition in Australia, Ari Gibson and William Pellen admitted that their title “has some moments of abrupt difficulty”. However, the developers also emphasized the greater freedom offered to players.

“llowing a higher level of freedom within the world means that you have choices all the time about where you’re going and what you’re doing.”

“The important thing for us is that we allow you to go way off the path. So one player may choose to follow it directly to its conclusion, and then another may choose to constantly divert from it and find all the other things that are waiting and all the other ways and routes.”

Team Cherry believes that players can overcome difficulty through exploration, for example by sidestepping challenges rather than getting stuck. Furthermore, since Hornet is “faster and more skillful” than Knight (the hero of the first game), the enemies in Silksong had to be “more complicated, more intelligent”.
