Steam Upcoming RPG Is One for Assassin’s Creed Fans

With Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Valley of Memory DLC set to land on 10 November, it’s only a few more days until you get your next franchise fix.

Beyond that though, you may want to keep an eye on upcoming RPG Mystic which will likely scratch the same itch.

Developed by ILHAM, Mystic’s developers actually cite Assassin’s Creed as a major inspiration, as well as the worlds of Prince of Persia and Red Dead Redemption 2.

The formula combines RPG, action, and survival elements, with the title based upon both Middle Eastern history and One Thousand and One Nights, also known as Arabian Nights, a collection of folktales.

“As the End of Times grew near, ‘The Signs’ began to come true. Powerful forces, the likes of which humans had not seen before began to arrive on earth, causing destruction. What were once great palaces, and wonders of technology, became ruins,” the synopsis reads.

“Where humans once roamed the earth, and Jinn were relegated to darkness, the tables were turned, and humans were now savages, relegated to mountains, with Jinn taking over the Palaces.”

Players assume the role of a human in this world, tasked with following either a spiritual or technological path.

Spirituality will allow you to acquire lost knowledge while the technological route will see you seek out the regaining of physical superiority in the war against the Jinn.

As I said, the game features survival elements, so you’ll need to build a base which’ll protect you from sandstorms, hostile creatures, and “encroaching spiritual decay”, whatever that means.

You’ll gather resources to fend off hunger, thirst and fatigue, also engaging in combat with spiritual threats like Jinn, ghosts, desert raiders, and “cursed beasts”.

Of course, you can, as the game is inspired by Assassin’s Creed, tackle things via a stealthier approach.

Players will “wander through vast deserts, forgotten temples, and subterranean tombs as you uncover a land haunted by stories long believed to be legend”.

“Dynamic environments, day-night cycles, and spiritual anomalies make every journey unpredictable.”

When can you play Mystic?

Mystic remains without a release date, but it is launching in early access soon according to its listing on Steam, and it does appear to be PC only for now.

Does Mystic boast the AAA polish of its inspirations? No, but that shouldn’t be all that matters in gaming.

If you like old-school RPGs, I’m sure you’ll get a thrill out of Mystic’s back to basics approach.

There’s no word on just how extensive this game’s open world is, but I’m sure the title will provide for several dozen hours of entertainment.

Wishlist it if you want to be kept up to date on its progress.
