Valve’s Steam Machine is nearing closer to release and it looks like pre-orders are right around the corner, brace yourselves.
Recently Valve celebrated the successful launch of the Steam Controller. This swanky new bit of kit sold out so fast the company has had to implement a reservation system just so all interested gamers can get their hands on one.
Through those reservations though has come the revelation that the Steam Machine’s launch is closer than you’d think.
Steam Machine Pre-Orders Will Go Live Soon, Get Ready
While the Steam Controller is compatible with any PC provided you can connect Bluetooth devices to it, it’s going to be especially handy for the Steam Machine.
The new console aims to provide a PC-like gaming experience on the TV/monitor setup you have in your front room.
When looking through the code of the aforementioned Steam Controller reservations some interesting references to the Steam Machine were found.
As shared by Chris Mizo on X, “4 Steam Machine packages reportedly showed up in Valve’s reservation code” along with “2 Steam Frame packages were referenced too.
The Steam Frame is a wireless VR headset that’ll also see compatibility with the Steam Machine, and is meant to be a successor to the previously released Valve Index.
Steam Machine reservations may be here soon.

These references are believed to be a clue that Valve is gearing up for Steam Machine reservations, otherwise known as pre-orders.
It makes sense as the Steam Machine is going to be a very popular gaming device. Not only is it exciting because it’s coming from Valve, but the idea that lifelong console gamers will be able to get a taste of PC life adds a lot of appeal. The console itself is also very compact and customisable, with Valve encouraging its owners to tinker to their heart’s content with different operating systems and more.
There’s currently no ETA on when pre-orders might go live and we still don’t have a price yet, but Valve is clearly getting ready for its arrival. Even some of the latest Steam updates have referenced the new hardware.
Take it with a pinch of salt of course because most of this is speculation but given how quickly the Steam Controller sold out, interested parties will need to be on their toes if they want to snag this new kit.
Steam Machine Console Bundles
While the price of the Steam Machine itself is unknown what kind of bundles are on offer will likely dictate how much you’ll spend on it.
The Steam Machine will come bundled with a Steam Controller so if you still haven’t grabbed one yet, worry not.
For those that did successfully purchase a Steam Controller though Valve has already confirmed that you’ll be able to buy the Steam Machine as a standalone item.
There’ll also likely be a bundle that packages the Steam Machine, Steam Controller and Steam Link into one package.
With more than one time bundled in the price is sure to skyrocket, but right now analysts are predicting the Steam Machine by itself should cost around $600-$650.
