Steam Gains 10/10 Rated ‘Captivating’ Free RPG With Final Fantasy Vibes

RPGs come in many shapes and sizes even if it is probably titles like Crimson Desert and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that spring to mind.

Franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy, however, used to deliver us streamlined, pixel-art RPG experiences that are a far cry from the sprawling, photorealistic worlds of today.

It’s that sort of feeling that free new PC offering Oblivion Maiden evokes.

Developed and published by Project Ex Libris, Oblivion Maiden is an RPG set at the St. Dorothia Academy, “a magical educational institution hidden deep within a forest”.

“One day, you play a video. The moment it begins, your consciousness is drawn into an unfamiliar academy,” the synopsis begins.

“The place where you awaken is St. Dorothia Academy, a school of magic hidden deep within a forest. As you explore the academy, you encounter a mysterious girl named Lulunya Apathia.

“She spends her days broadcasting toward the vast digital sea from a quiet corner of the academy. With her guidance, you will journey through a world where the boundary between reality and dreams has begun to blur.

“By touching the hearts of the students, you will uncover the truth behind a series of strange phenomena.”

There’s actually a slight Hogwarts Legacy feel at play as players attend magical classes, complete assignments, and meet both their fellow students and teachers.

It’s not long before a “mysterious incident” sweeps through the school, trapping students in dream worlds, as teased by the synopsis.

Each dream world is made up of memories, wishes, and emotions and you’ll have to navigate all of this to find the heart of each dream; understanding a dream is the key to bringing the affected individual back to reality.

All characters are voiced within the game, plus Oblivion Maiden boasts a “diverse soundtrack” to accompany its “dreamlike adventures” and “dramatic climaxes”.

What’s really nice about Oblivion Maiden is that you can carry on playing when you finish the main story with the world remaining explorable.

You Should Be Able To Roll Credits In Around Two To Three Hours

Oblivion Maiden is completely free-to-play on PC storefront Steam and, at the time of writing, it boasts a perfect review score of 100%.

“The graphics are gorgeous – maps, sprites and CGs alike are all polished and charming, plus the soundtrack is awesome.
