Steam Drops Dozens of New Free Downloads You Can Check Out Now

I’m hardly imagining you’re short of things to play; I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have a backlog that’s bursting at the seams.

If that doesn’t apply to you, however, then you’re in the right place.

The latest edition of Steam Next Fest is almost here, running from 13 to 20 October which explains why so many new free demos have recently landed on the PC storefront.

Certainly, we’ll be bringing you our top picks as that event officially gets underway, but I wanted to highlight a few early recent additions that are more than worth your time.

Tides of Tomorrow is a 2026 game that I’m personally very excited about.

You step into the shoes of a Tidewalker; the idea is that you awaken with no memories within a civilisation that’s almost been wiped out by a great flood.

The player character is suffering from Plastemia, where the consumption of microplastics can turn you into plastic forever.

Certainly, it’s a rather heavy handed warning against the ways of our real life world, but stick with me here.

Tides of Tomorrow features an asynchronous multiplayer system so you’ll select a prior player – whether that be a friend, streamer, or stranger – and you’ll be able to trace their actions.

That way, you can learn from what they did.

Every time you play the title, you can pick another player leading to the discovery of new gameplay segments and story beats.

The demo is well worth a go.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is also fantastic, but I probably didn’t need to tell you that.

This pixel art beat em’ up is a true feast for the eyes, allowing you to face off against waves of enemies.

It’s a pretty comprehensive demo too, allowing you to choose from nine Marvel heroes.

Already, it has garnered ‘Very Positive’ reviews and I’m not at all surprised.

If you enjoy tactical RPGs, then let me direct your attention towards Menace from Overhype Studios.

Here, it’s your job to lead a strike force against an alien threat.

Combat is turn-based – plus outside of that, you’ll need to train your troops, deploy tanks and mechs, and plan your missions.

Sledding Game is a surprise indie hit which has already received rave reviews for its demo.

It’s a small-scale project where you literally sled down a hill whilst enjoying talking to your friends via proximity chat.

You can do tricks to earn points as well as enjoy side activities like snowball fights, darts, curling, and roasting smores.

It’s super cosy, especially if it’s cold where you are.

These games are just the tip of the iceberg.

It’s always worth looking at Steam’s demos, but especially so at the moment as there’s some great options ahead of Next Fest.
