Steam Drops 4 More Free Games, Yours To Keep

Steam Drops 4 More Free Games, Yours To Keep

You know the drill by now. PC storefront Steam does not care for your backlog.

That’s why it’s dropped a further four free games you can download now – and they’re yours to keep.

As always, these are all small-scale indie titles, but that doesn’t mean you should turn your nose up at them.

There are plenty of incredible PC games out there that have been made on a shoestring budget.

A Horror, Platformer, and Two Roguelikes Are Up For Grabs

Let’s begin with Echoed Nights by solo developer Landon Armstrong.

This is a single-player horror which appears to be a bit of a work in progress.

“Explore a fragmented, surreal facility, evade twisted memory-born monsters, and collect scattered objects to piece together your forgotten past as an unknown voice guides you, whispering cryptic hints and haunting warnings,” the description reads.

“Its words draw you deeper into the twisted halls, where every step could reveal a truth—or awaken a nightmare.”

Players will need to collect stuffed animals, weirdly, that hold stored memories that reveal more about your past.

There’s no review consensus yet so you’ll have to simply take the plunge if you fancy giving this one a go.

If horror isn’t for you, you might want to try Projet Brouillon by Team Croquis which is a charming little 3D platformer.

As you might be able to tell, this is a French project and currently, English is not supported but that doesn’t massively matter; platformers don’t require a ton of onscreen text nor dialogue.

The game centres around a sketch who’s broken free from a sheet of paper and takes to exploring its surroundings.

The idea is that the player can connect with their inner child.

We now move onto the action-adventure genre with The Slayer’s Rest from Borondón Games.

“Step into Quixote’s mind and battle fearsome monsters in intense mental training,” says the synopsis.

“Dodge enemies, beat your high score, and earn coins to unlock upgrades and level up your skills.”

Your goal is simple. You need to survive for as long as possible, dodging enemies, investing in upgrades, and increasing your resilience.

Although it classifies itself as an action-adventure, The Slayer’s Rest takes on a roguelike structure so you’ll want to improve upon your last run with every new attempt.

Along those same lines we have Random Chaos Dungeon to round us out. This one’s from the indie team denhonator.

This is a randomly generated roguelike that can be enjoyed by one to four players.

Almost every element is randomised. In fact, even enemies are built from “parts”, completely changing up the nature of their stats, behaviours, and attacks every time.

There are a variety of weapons and armours you can pick up, plus boss fights if you proceed far enough.

Enemies scale based on how many players there are so this might be a good one to enjoy with friends.

A run supposedly lasts for one to two hours but you can save the game mid-run and continue later which is a nice feature.

There are a couple of reviews for Random Chaos Dungeon with players praising it as “super fun” and a “5/5 simple game”.

All of the above titles are available to download and play now.
