Steam ‘Awesome’ Free Game Has 96 Percent Positive Reviews

A new free game that recently hit Steam has been called “awesome” by players, and to be honest, it’s just nice to see something so fun pull a community together.

It’s a couple of weeks old now, but PC gamers are slowly discovering Deep Snake, a pretty awesome arcade game from dietzribi.

It’s a play on the concept of Snake. You know, that old game that pretty much everyone had on their Nokia phones in the 90s? Except it’s now 3D and non-euclidean.

You need to guide your snake deeper and deeper into the void, eating apples and avoiding strange obstacles. The deeper you go, the higher your score becomes. On your way down, you’ll find trippy geometry and even stranger landmarks.

It’s pretty awesome, if a little simple, but considering it’s free-to-play and has a nice little addictive premise, you can’t go wrong with it.

Deep Snake currently has a total positive review score of 96% on Steam at the moment, meaning that nearly everyone who has left a review has decided to recommend it to new players.

“This game is awesome! The music is a banger, hahaha!” reads one review on the Steam store page. “At first, I couldn’t get used to the navigation and controls. But after awhile it is easy to master it. I played this game using a controller via the directional pad.”

“If you appreciate truly original games that reimagine classic genres, Deep Snake is a must-play. It’s a brilliant example of how you can take a mechanic familiar to everyone and turn it into something completely unique and mesmerising,” reads another review.

Another review said, “You’re telling me you don’t have 39 minutes to play this game. Close outcome memories and have fun for once in your life.”

Deep Snake is made by dietzribi, who has developed similar experimental games in the past that feature a slight twist on a familiar idea.

For example, UvsU: You vs You is a twist on the PvP format where you fight yourself, essentially outsmarting your past self and the moves they made. It’s a little tricky to explain, but looks interesting from what we’ve seen so far.

It has also developed Toodee and Topdee, a twist on the 2D platformer and featuring non-euclidean movement, where side-scrolling movement is merged with three-dimensional spaces.

Be sure to check out Deep Snake now by downloading it from the Steam store page.
