Stardew Valley players can rizz up Sebastian 24/7 as free add-on introduces social media and texting

It isn’t easy rizzing up the “don’t talk to me” Sebastian, but that task has just been made so much easier thanks to the addition of in-game social media and texting in Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley players can now enjoy one of Grand Theft Auto VI’s rumoured features on PC thanks to the hard work of talented modder HaPyke.

HaPyke has released two new creations via NexusMods which, when combined, add some brilliant new mechanics to this cozy gaming titan.

Smartphone – Stardew Social’ does exactly what you’re likely assuming it does, introducing a social media app to the game which players can access via their own in-game smartphone.

Here, both you and the townsfolk can share updates about your lives.

“Your contact list is synced from Smartphone Contacts. Adding your friends to Contacts will allow you to see their posts, and allow them to view your posts as well,” the creator notes.

“And that’s it. You are ready to scroll on Stardew Social.”

The mod does use generative AI in order for villagers to formulate responses, so do keep that in mind if it bothers you.

HaPyke’s complimentary mod ‘Smartphone – Messenger’ adds a messaging service where you can text and send photos to the game’s townsfolk.

That could be fun if there’s someone you’re trying to formulate a relationship and just want to make sure you’re on their mind around the clock.

Again, your contact list is synced from your Smartphone Contacts just like the previous mod.

In fact, you can even download HaPyke’s ‘Unlimited Event Expansion’ which will allow you to schedule picnics, parties, and other events from the messenger.

For both of the smartphone mods, HaPyke notes that it currently costs them real money for every message sent, so asks players to “use it responsibly”.

As such, you’re currently limited to a set number of uses per day but you can bypass that limitation and experience these mods without any cost to the creator by acquiring your own OpenAI API key instead of relying on theirs.

The mods are compatible with ‘Stardew Valley Expanded’, it seems, if you already have that installed.

High praise is already rolling in: “best mod ever”

It’s early days for these creations but someone has already branded ‘Stardew Social’ as the “best mod ever” in the listing’s posts.

You have to wonder whether in-game messaging and socials is something eventually planned by Stardew Valley’s creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone.

Barone is currently working on Update 1.7 but there’s no word on when it’ll land given that he’s splitting his time between that and new game Haunted Chocolatier.

Update 1.7 is confirmed to introduce Clint and Sandy as marriage candidates, with Barone keeping its remaining features under wraps.

If the update is anything like the former 1.6, it’ll most likely land on PC first before being rolled out to console versions of Stardew Valley sometime after.
