A potential teaser for Spyro 4 has got fans excited, and it’s looking like this could be our first proper look at the character’s new design.
Yesterday marked the 27th anniversary of the Spyro the Dragon series, and fans still hold out hope that everyone’s favourite purple dragon could one day return to our consoles.
Since debuting in 1998, Spyro has become a beloved mascot for PlayStation as well as platformer gaming in general. And it’s seen some renewed interest in recent years thanks to the rather excellent remasters made by Toys For Bob back in 2018.
For the 27th anniversary of Spyro, Toys For Bob posted a message on social media reading: “Any friend of @SpyroTheDragon is a friend of ours! Happy 27 year anniversary #SpyroCommunityDay”.

The image depicts Spyro soaring in mid-air, accompanied by his trusty dragonfly companion, Sparx. Behind him sits a large number 27, showing artwork based on the first Spyro game.
And sure, it’s a nice little celebration for a character and franchise that obviously means a lot for Toys For Bob, but some fans have also taken it as a teaser for the next Spyro game.
“Completely different proportions, horns and Mohawk are slicked back, and even more scales,” reads one post on X (formerly Twitter) comparing this image with Spyro’s look in the Reignited Trilogy. “100% his new design for the new game!”.
Another fan also reckons that the placement of Spyro and the number 27 also resembles a four, hinting at a new game.

Whether this is a Spyro 4 teaser or not, nothing official has been confirmed by Toys For Bob or Activision yet.
Since Toys For Bob became independent in 2024, it’s been working on a game in partnership with Xbox Game Studios that could very well be a new Spyro title.
Of course, Spyro 4 won’t actually be the fourth title in the series. After the original trilogy wrapped up in 2000, eleven more Spyro titles were made, including spin-offs for handheld consoles and a reboot trilogy titled The Legend of Spyro.
Once The Legend of Spyro trilogy was completed, however, Spyro took a 10-year hiatus and didn’t return in any new games until 2018’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which remastered the first three games with modern graphics.
Fans have longed for the series to return to its roots following the excellent reception to the Reignited Trilogy, and there’s hope that the next game will be a true Spyro 4 that follows in those footsteps.
