Memory and storage prices have become an extremely pressing issue for manufacturers. In fact, it is now impossible to bring a new product using these components to market at a price that is affordable for the average consumer.
Given this situation, gamers and industry observers are anticipating a possible delay for the next generation of consoles. Some are suggesting 2028, 2029, or even 2030 to allow time for the situation to stabilize.
However, such a delay does not appear to be part of Sony’s plans at this time. This was the response from insider KeplerL2, who is generally well-informed about hardware and, more specifically, AMD devices. Sony and AMD are currently collaborating on the design of the PS6.
In the past, the insider notably stated that delaying a console that is practically finished would make no sense. Expensive contracts have already been signed with component suppliers, and there is currently no guarantee that prices will have fallen by 2030. Thus, PlayStation could be planning to phase out the PS5 as early as the end of 2027.
