Sony and AMD discuss their shared commitment to video games

PlayStation has posted an interview between Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS5, and Jack Huynh, the general manager of computing and graphics at AMD in the form of a nine-minute video.

During the exchange, the two men discuss their shared commitment to advancing video game technology. In particular, they talk about machine learning-based technology for graphics and gameplay.

Among the topics covered is universal compression, which compresses all data sent in order to reduce bandwidth consumption. They also discuss Radiance Cores, which manage ray tracing and path tracing in real time to deliver unprecedented lighting performance.

Finally, there are neural networks that allow computing units to collaborate. In turn, machine learning models get larger, more efficient, significantly more scalable, and less prone to overload.
