Skyrim Used to Be Populated by an Ancient Race from a Continent That’s Now a Frozen Wasteland

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim‘s titular region is home to richly layered history and lore, and much of it centers around the people living there and their mythology, like the race that would eventually become the Nords. Digging into lore such as this is a long and involved process that Skyrim doesn’t necessarily nudge the player towards, however, and the knowledge of the ancient pre-Nordic race of Elder Scrolls isn’t a given.
