Skyrim Meets Stardew Valley in Unexpected New Free Download

Steam users who like both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Stardew Valley might love this upcoming game.

Both titles have been massive hits in the gaming industry, raising the bar significantly for their respective genres and standing the test of time.

Skyrim is infinitely replayable, with so many quests, builds and secrets to uncover for even the most experienced players. Just take a look at online forums dedicated to Bethesda’s RPG and you’ll find loads of players, new and old, discovering things they never thought possible in the game, and that’s before you start downloading and installing mods to spice up your playthrough.

Similarly, Stardew Valley still has an enormous and growing fanbase. This is largely due to a steady stream of updates adding the occasional new gameplay feature, but mostly due to its cosy vibes and near-endless possibilities for how you want to construct your farm.

Both games are worlds apart so you wouldn’t expect them to work well together, but Potions Of Veldenkeep on Steam feels like the closest we’ll get to a union of these two beloved titles.

According to its Steam page, Potions Of Veldenkeep asks you to “run your own alchemist shop in the fantasy City of Adventurers! Grow plants, brew potions, set prices, and serve curious villagers. Earn gold, build reputation, and expand your craft in this cozy first-person herbalist simulator.”

You’d expect a game like that to have a simple but gorgeous pixel-art aesthetic but Potions Of Veldenkeep actually looks more like a bizarre Elder Scrolls spin-off, set in a 3D world.

Unlike Skyrim though there’s no conflict to endure, no dragons to slay and no wars to prevent, it’s just you and your alchemist shop.

It looks delightful, and looking at the screenshots and gameplay footage I’m hoping The Elder Scrolls VI lets us run our own shops as a neat little side activity. Skyrim lets us own and customise a house so it feels like a natural progression to let us own a business.

The full game is due to release in Q3 next year according to the Steam page, but if you can’t wait that long there’s a free demo to play right now.

If you like the fantasy world of The Elder Scrolls and the laid-back gameplay-loop of Stardew Valley, Potions Of Veldenkeep might be the Steam game for you.
