SEGA pokes fun at Mario Kart in an ad for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

What if SEGA was trying to reignite its old rivalry with Nintendo? That’s what a new ad for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds would have us believe.

In this 30-second clip, the Japanese publisher compares its racing game to another that appears pixelated on screen. The voiceover says that “we all knows about that kart racing game”, which is “great, and we don’t need to show it to you”. SEGA goes on to say that its new Sonic takes driving to a whole new level, at full speed and across dimensions.

There’s no doubt that this mysterious title is Mario Kart. It’s even backed by an old camper van, while Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is represented by a real race car speeding along at full throttle.

In short, it’s an advertisement worthy of the famous console war that raged between Nintendo and SEGA. Of course, it’s all in good fun, as Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will also be released on Switch on September 25.
