Unlike Crazy Taxi: World Tour, which has been the subject of much discussion on this topic, Asobo Studio decided not to use generative AI during the production of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. The game will be released on August 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
In an interview with Eurogamer, producer Eric Chort was asked about artificial intelligence in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. The journalist also asked him whether the use of these tools was essential for a small team (70 people are working on the game). The answer was quite simple, as AI was not used on the project.
“So we don’t use it; we don’t want to. It’s a choice. We think that our games are working with the fans and with the community and with the critics because they are original, because we have unique settings, unique characters, artistic direction.
All this is pretty in danger because of AI as we see it. We just want to stay [with] how we make games and to keep this thing in mind when we are making games – our creativity, our authenticity.”
Chort added that AI isn’t the solution for a small team. He prefers to be smart about designing Asobo’s games by, for example, sticking to a linear formula rather than opting for the complexity of an open world.
“We prefer not to use it at all and keep our creativity. Asobo is a family team and we have a lot of people that stay a long time in the studio that are veterans, and a lot of young people, so definitely we choose people. This is the way we are thinking about production.”

It’s interesting to see how different game developers approach the use of AI in their projects. It’s always refreshing to hear about creative choices that prioritize originality and craftsmanship. Looking forward to seeing how Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy unfolds!
