The developers of Resident Evil Requiem have explained how Grace Ashcroft, the game’s new protagonist, differs from the series’ iconic heroes.
According to Masato Kumazawa, the game’s producer, interviewed by CheckpointGaming, Grace was designed to reinforce the horror aspect of the title. She is an ordinary person, much more emotionally vulnerable than Chris, Leon, or Jill.
Kumazawa even describes her as the most fearful protagonist in the entire series, a deliberate choice to make players feel the tension through her. However, Grace is still an FBI analyst, so she is a little more familiar with weapons than Ethan Winters, but still far from the level of the veterans of the saga.
The team wants players to constantly feel the limitations of their resources and abilities, pushing Requiem towards an approach closer to classic survival horror, while adding a few new features and weapons to vary the experience.
