Resident Evil Lovers, You Can’t Miss This Free Demo

Resident Evil lovers will want to check out this free demo that’s a nod to survival horror games of yesteryear.

As great as modern survival horror games can be, sometimes it’s nice to take a trip down memory lane. Not only with classic games such as Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark, and Silent Hill, but also new games that honour the past greats.

The indie gaming scene is great for offering survival horror games of that ilk, and over recent years, we’ve seen some truly terrifying titles.

One such game that comes to mind is the psychological horror, Visage by SadSquare Studio. Seriously, that game is intense, and it’s inspired by the cancelled cult-classic, P.T.

As for other indie horror games that are a nod to yesteryear, you can’t go wrong with a charming game called Alisa, developed by Casper Croes, which, in particular, pays homage to the original PlayStation era and most certainly should be on your radar.

Another recommendation for a game worthy of your radar is 2021’s Tormented Souls, developed by Dual Effect and Abstract Digital Works. Sure, like many indie games, Tormented Souls is a bit rough around the edges, but its potential is there.

Tormented Souls gives players the choice of old-school ‘tank controls’, has challenging puzzles, plenty of backtracking, inventory management, mystery and terrifying creatures. Everything that fans of the genre would want.

However, if you’re long done with Tormented Souls, then you might be pleased to know that it’s getting a sequel next month.

“Following the harrowing events at Wildberger Hospital, Caroline Walker hopes for a normal life with her sister, Anna. Yet in the months that follow, Anna is haunted by visions of violence and death, compelling her to create disturbing drawings that rapidly manifest into horrifying reality,” reads the synopsis of Tormented Souls 2.

“Desperate to free her of this affliction, Caroline travels to the remote town of Villa Hess and a mysterious clinic nestled deep within the mountains of southern Chile.”

Despite Tormented Souls 2 not being out until another few weeks or so, the good news is that you can check out a sample of the game right now, courtesy of the aforementioned demo. It’s available across all available platforms.

Tormented Souls 2 will be released on 23 October 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Just in time for Halloween season. Hopefully, it will eventually get a release on Nintendo Switch 2.
