Remedy and Annapurna have signed an agreement that will allow Alan Wake and Control to be adapted into movies and TV series. This will open the door to new opportunities for both franchises.
In an interview with The Game Business, Jean-Charles Gaudechon, Remedy’s new CEO (and former executive at Electronic Arts), outlined his plans. While the Finnish company will continue to develop the narrative-driven titles it’s known for, it will also need to turn its critical successes into commercial hits.
As such, Remedy will seek to further grow its community and sell more, and to achieve this, the company will go for a cross-media strategy.
“But as franchises Control, Alan Wake, etcetera, could give a lot more. There’s a vision on thinking bigger for some of these IPs, which need to find its audience much, much further than the current audience. It’s super exciting. We need to think more about how we are approaching our IPs as a franchise. How do we grow the community?
[Our deal with] Annapurna goes into making our games, our franchises shine further and reach an audience that doesn’t exist today. It’s a pity, I think Alan Wake should have sold more. Control should have sold more. To me, that’s one of the first things we need to fix, even before trying to make more games to a certain extent. First of all, maximize the potential of the ones we have, because they’re incredible. And cross-media is going to help us do that.”
Remedy’s next game, Control Resonant, will come out later this year.

It’s exciting to see Remedy branching out with adaptations of Alan Wake and Control. This could bring fresh perspectives to the beloved games and attract new fans. Looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds!
