Red Dead Redemption 2 Gets New Free Loan Shark Game Mode

Red Dead Redemption 2 players can now enjoy a brand new free loan shark game mode, if that’s what you enjoy doing.

You may remember that during the Red Dead Redemption 2 story mode, Arthur is made to collect debts from certain characters who owe the gang money.

It’s a pretty memorable part of the game, least of all as it leads to some heavy implications that occur for Arthur and the rest of the gang later in the story.

However, outside of these missions, you weren’t able to collect debts from people and make a little extra cash on the side, which is a shame considering how hard it can be to find cash in Red Dead Redemption 2 sometimes.

That’s where one Red Dead Redemption 2 modder has stepped in, allowing players to pick up a little extra loose change by shaking down some fellas who owe money.

Loansharking – Debt Collection is described as a “proof-of-concept ASI mod” that adds debt collection to the game as a side activity for Arthur to participate in.

How it works is you pick up leads at the Post Office, which pins a debtor to your map for you to go and collect what they owe. You can do this politely, by asking, or less politely, by using extreme force.

Red Dead Redemption 2‘s New Loan Shark Game Mode Brings Repeatable, Dynamic Missions To The Game

New letters are sent to the Post Office every two in-game days, meaning it’s a good activity to do in between missions and shouldn’t occur too frequently to get boring. If you’d rather them be more frequent, or less common, you can adjust this by making simple changes to a file.

If you’d rather do them one after another, you can also enable a ‘NonStopMissions’ option to ensure you’ll be able to play more of these loan shark missions in a row.

Modder Somncoitus says the mod was “inspired by the vanilla Loansharking missions already in the game”, but the way each mission plays out can be “unpredictable and varied”

This can mean one debtor may act like they’re going to pay, and then suddenly pull out a knife or try to shoot you. It’s a way of keeping each mission fresh and repeatable. In some cases, they’ll already have died or been attacked by a thug, and you can choose to recover the stolen money from the thug as well.

Once you have the debt, you can take it back to the Post Office to deposit it and earn a share of the money collected. And before you ask, no you can’t actually keep all the money for yourself. It isn’t deposited into your pockets until you hand the debt in.

You can download Loansharking – Debt Collection now from the Red Dead Redemption 2 NexusMods page.
