Rockstar Games is the talk of the town with Grand Theft Auto VIâs pre-orders expected to open any day now.
GTA VI is on track to launch on 19 November with many expecting an update from Rockstar Games ahead of parent company Take-Two Interactiveâs next earnings call on 21 May.
One game weâre not likely to hear about any time soon, at least in an official capacity, is Red Dead Redemption 2.
For whatever reason, Rockstar Games has decided not to launch a new-gen patch for the acclaimed title, despite us now being over five years into the life cycles of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Itâs something fans have endlessly rallied for, with insiders fuelling the speculative flames by claiming that plans for a new-gen patch exist.
Every window that the new-gen patch was supposedly due to land though has come and gone, so perhaps we should accept that this is it for Red Dead Redemption 2.
Of course, fans arenât going to rest on their laurels. If Rockstar Games wonât deliver the goods, you can rely on Red Dead Redemption 2âs community to do something in its stead.
Fans Are Modding Their Own New-Gen Upgrades For RDR2
Thatâs precisely whatâs happened with this latest 8K overhaul from beloved YouTuber Digital Dreams who has shared a modlist and ReShade preset for fellow fans to use.
It goes without saying that if you want to try and copy this visual overhaul, youâll need to do so on PC – plus youâll need to own Red Dead Redemption 2.
With the game installed, you can find the modlist and ReShade preset in the description of the video below which is truly a sight to behold.
Digital Dreams is running Red Dead Redemption 2 on impressive hardware, using an RTX 5090, so if youâre using a lower-end PC or PC components, you should expect a dip in quality.
Fellow fans of Rockstarâs rootinâ tootinâ game are impressed with what Digital Dreams has to offer, brandishing the overhaul a â10/10â update.
âIncredible work. Looks fantastic. 10/10,â said one viewer.
âAges like the finest wine,â added another.
Perhaps the real crime isnât Rockstar Gamesâ unwillingness to launch a new-gen update across PC and consoles, itâs the absence of Undead Nightmare 2.
The supernatural spin-off mode to Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare, was easily one of the very best aspects of the game.
Red Dead Online offered somewhat of a spiritual successor with last yearâs âStrange Tales of the West Vol. 1â content update.
The âVol. 1â implies the existence of future volumes although nothing of that kind has yet surfaced.
As much as the focus is going to be on GTA VI throughout the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, letâs hope a few crumbs are dropped along the way to satiate the Red Dead fandom.
