Questions as Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Surfaces Online

Resident Evil Requiem gameplay has appeared online, and it has raised some questions about the direction of the game and for the better, in my opinion.

Following months of rumours, Capcom finally announced Resident Evil Requiem and as exciting as that announcement was, it also meant that we could stop referring to the game as “Resident Evil 9”.

In Resident Evil Requiem, it will take us back to Raccoon City, the location of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, for the first time in the mainline series for nearly 30 years. The city is now in ruins after the government dropped a nuke in an attempt to cover up the T-Virus outbreak.

We’ll also be playing a new character called Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of the news reporter, Alyssa, whom we first met in Resident Evil Outbreak. That being said, rumours have long been circulating that there could be another playable character with series legend, Leon S. Kennedy.

Earlier this year, in my hands-on preview with Resident Evil Requiem, I was left feeling very impressed by what could be one of the scariest entries in the series. As an obsessed fan, there was no better feeling than having that level of optimism.

Zombies Return In Resident Evil Requiem

During some of the latter trailers for Resident Evil Requiem, we got a glimpse of what looked to be the return of proper zombies, a key component that has been with the series since the very start.

However, this week, we’ve had our best look at the zombies yet, after new gameplay footage has been making the social media rounds. The scene in question featured Grace shooting a zombie that was walking down a flight of stairs and was broadcast on the Japanese TV network, NHK.

Some have said that the location in which this zombie was being shot at looks a lot like the Spencer Mansion from Resident Evil (original/remake), or I suppose it could be the Umbrella training facility from Resident Evil Zero.

It would make sense that this could be the Spencer Mansion, after all, it is located on the outskirts of Raccoon City in the Arklay Mountains. But I don’t think it is.

For starters, the stair construct and the corridors on either side of it are not exact to what’s in Resident Evil or Resident Evil Zero, but I could be wrong. I suppose the Spencer Mansion may have been reworked in Resident Evil Requiem.

In my humble opinion, while I wasn’t able to access this suspected area in my hands-on preview with Resident Evil Requiem, it looks more like it could be a different area of that location. But again, I could be wrong.

I guess we’ll find out regardless when Resident Evil Requiem launches on 27 February 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
