What could the PS6 price be?
In a video from Moore’s Law Is Dead, they claim to have a document that shows that manufacturing of the PS6 will begin either in early or mid 2027. Although that release window may be exciting up front, the leaker claims the price for this new console might be high. This might be due to the recent Xbox price hikes, which increased the price of its Xbox Series consoles five years after it initially launched.
“I’m more concerned with the fact that the Xbox Series X is $800 and that the Xbox handheld is $1,000. Like that’s what’s going to make the PS6 expensive,” the YouTuber said.
Additionally, Moore’s Law Is Dead says that Sony could decide on a more consumer-friendly approach, similar to the PS4, which was sold at a loss when it was released in 2013: “We don’t know which way they will go. I mean, sure, the PS6 could be up to $800. But if they went back to the PS4 era of taking a 10% loss at launch mode, there is nothing stopping the PS6 being $499. Or $549 without a disc drive.”
So, while there isn’t an official price tag for the PS6, there is definitely a realm where Sony’s next console could be similarly priced to the Xbox Series X. Although not as high a hike, the PS5 also increased in price recently.
