PS5 Merges With PC In Playstation Store, New Symbols Appear

It looks like Sony might actually be exploring a long-overdue feature on PlayStation 5 and PC.

When it comes to cross-play, PlayStation is a bit of a stickler. There was a time when the company would never have entertained the possibility of cross-play multiplayer. Though the company isn’t as bad as Nintendo.

After all, Sony has not only made Helldivers 2 available on PC and Xbox Series X/S earlier this year, but it also features crossplay for all available platforms. Before that point, it seemed that Sony was only keen about releasing select first-party titles on PC and not Xbox.

“Playing Helldivers 2 almost makes you feel like you’re back in the golden age of online gaming, it’s pure, silly cooperative fun that offers a tailored experience for all kinds of players, whether you’re looking for something casual or your next big challenge,” said GAMINGbible’s Sam in his review.

When Microsoft opened up its doors by bringing first-party titles such as Forza Horizon 5, Gears of War: Reloaded, and soon, Halo: Campaign Evolved to PlayStation 5 with full cross-play support, it may have loosened up Sony’s perspective a little more.

Will Sony offer cross-play multiplayer?

That being said, as reported by PC Gamer (via Twitter user yAmethxst), a recent leak on the PlayStation Store suggests that while not cross-play, cross-buy games might be under heavy consideration.

So, what does this mean exactly? The obvious assumption could be, if you buy a game on PlayStation 5 via the PS Store, you could download it on Steam at no extra cost. Perhaps similar to how it was with classic games purchased on the PlayStation Store for PS3, PS Vita and the PSP.

What’s more, French media outlet Dealabs (thanks GameSpot), also shared its own evidence that a cross-buy feature could be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC purchases.

As we’ve seen countless times before, Dealabs is a reliable source, especially when it comes to PlayStation Plus leaks, so that’s perhaps worth keeping in mind.

Of course, we should always take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise, but given the fact that Helldivers 2 released as a cross-platform title this year, the possibility of cross-buy on PlayStation 5 and PC doesn’t feel like it’s outside the realm of possibility.

As always, we’ll keep you updated once we learn more about this developing story. That being said, don’t go expecting the likes of God of War, Gran Turismo and The Last of Us on Xbox home consoles anytime soon.
