PS5 Exclusive RPG Blends Cyberpunk 2077 With Genshin Impact, Free to Play

If you’re looking for something new to play that won’t cost you a penny, allow me to remind you that Arknights: Endfield has finally launched.

Developed by Hypergryph and published by Gryphline, Arknights: Endfield pitches itself as a 3D industrial RPG.

I’d sell it to you as a blend of the worlds of Genshin Impact and Cyberpunk 2077, perhaps with some Death Stranding thrown in.

Available on PlayStation 5 consoles and PC

The game is set on a moon known as Talos-II which was colonised 152 years before the events of Arknights: Endfield by pioneers from Terra.

The dimensional portal that got them there though shut, stranding the pioneers.

Life on Talos-II is tough and essentially, over the next 152 years, the Terran pioneers faced various hardships, but I won’t spoil the entirety of the lore.

In the present day, the moon is supported by Endfield Industries which seeks to recycle Talos-II’s materials in order to rebuild and expand civilisation on the rapidly crumbling planet.

As the player, you’ll take on the role of an Endministrator for the company.

In the semi open-world, players will seek to build and manage bases as they control a four-person team.

That won’t be as straight forward as it sounds, with Arknights: Endfield boasting plenty of combat encounters, so you’ll need to be tactical in the building of your party.

If I’ve piqued your interest, Arknights: Endfield is available on PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, and Android – and as a reminder, it’s totally free-to-play.

There are, unsurprisingly, in-game purchases. It features the usual gacha mechanics, with players also able to purchase a Battle Pass.

As the game has only launched today, there’s not exactly a wide review consensus yet from players, but the media has had its say.

Arknights: Endfield currently boasts a ‘generally favourable’ Metacritic score of 79 according to 15 critics, correct at the time of writing.

CMMagazine awarded a score of 90, writing, “Arknights: Endfield combines fluid combat, elaborate factory building, and Death Stranding-esque building to create a gacha RPG like no other.”

RPG Site said, “I like a lot of what I’ve seen in Endfield. The combat system seems really engaging and the visuals are some of the best I have seen for a gacha game. While the story does seem quite promising so far, I am not sure if I want to fully commit to the game with a gacha system this predatory as someone who enjoys a lot of gacha games.”

TheGamer was less impressed, awarding a score of 60. It wrote, “I can’t help but be a little disappointed with Arknights: Endfield. On paper, it has the makings of an excellent gacha game, and with some updates in the future, it potentially might become one. But for now, it’s a slow and often tedious experience.”

The game is free at the end of the day, so if you can resist those gacha elements, there’s no great harm in giving it a try.
