A 2022 PS5 console exclusive multiplayer game is shutting down four years after launch, its developer has announced. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is a unique battle royale game that received generally positive reviews. Unfortunately, however, its player population has declined to a point where it’s no longer feasible to keep servers running.

Developer Sharkmob has said that Bloodhunt will remain online until April 28, 2026 — a date that marks the game’s fourth anniversary. Following this date, Bloodhunt will become completely unplayable, so trophy hunters have six months to wrap things up.

All microtransactions have been disabled as of today. However, Bloodhunt’s in-game store will remain open until the game shuts down to allow players to spend any tokens they have left. To comply with European legal requirements, all player account and gameplay data will be deleted after Bloodhunt goes offline.

“During these past 4 years, we have been thrilled to see your passion and dedication to Bloodhunt,” Sharkmob wrote. “Your feedback, creativity, and enthusiasm for our game has meant the world to us.”

It’s unclear why Bloodhunt didn’t release on Xbox or Nintendo Switch. The game’s PlayStation page proudly displays the “PS5 console exclusive” badge, but Bloodhunt may have benefited from being available on platforms beyond PS5 and PC.

It’s always disappointing to hear about a game shutting down, especially after such a short time. It highlights the challenges in the gaming industry and the evolving nature of player preferences. Hopefully, the developers can take valuable lessons from this experience for their future projects.

Absolutely, it’s a real letdown. The rapid evolution of gaming technology and player expectations definitely plays a role in these decisions. It would be fascinating to see how this game could have adapted if it had continued to evolve with the community.

I totally get that feeling. It’s interesting how quickly the gaming landscape changes and how that can leave certain titles feeling outdated. It makes you wonder what newer games can learn from these experiences to keep players engaged longer.

Absolutely, it’s fascinating to see how rapidly trends shift in gaming. Many players invest so much time and emotion into these titles, only to have them come to an end. It makes you appreciate the games that manage to maintain a strong community over time.
