PS5 Continues Its Upward Rise With 84.2 Million Shipments Worldwide

With an install base that has finally surpassed the PlayStation 3’s lifetime total, it’s unsurprising to hear that PlayStation 5 shipments hit a new milestone. As revealed by Sony in its Q2 fiscal year 2026 results, the current-gen console has shipped 84.2 million consoles worldwide as of September 30th. Not even five years since it launched, and there’s still room for growth.

With 3.9 million consoles shipped in those three months, how much growth has it seen compared to the same period last year? Only 100,000 additional units. However, that’s after Sony raised prices in the United States for both PS5 models and the PS5 Pro, so it’s still impressive.

Other notable figures include 119 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, a whopping three million increase over last year. Software sales for the PS5 and PS4 totaled 80.3 million in the quarter, with first-party titles contributing 6.3 million (up one million over the previous year). Digital game sales continue to rise, encompassing 72 percent of total software sales.

While Sony hasn’t revealed much about its upcoming first-party schedule outside of Saros in March 2026 and Marvel’s Wolverine in Fall, State of Play Japan is scheduled today at 2 PM PST. Perhaps many of the revealed titles, primarily from Japan and Asia, will fill those gaps.
