According to a new report, PlayStation is getting ready to remove some PlayStation 4 services next year, sunsetting several legacy features for the older console.
Which PSN features are being sunset on PS4?
A new report from Insider Gaming notes that PlayStation is preparing to “sunset” several PS Network features on the PS4 beginning in the spring of 2026. Many of these features include things that have to deal with how new games added to the PS4 will integrate with the system overall.
The report comes courtesy of documentation sent to Insider Gaming, which specifically states “that any new PS4 title submitted after this date will no longer be able to integrate with the following legacy features.”
These features include:
- Activity Feed Web API
- Title Small Storage (TSS)
- Title User Storage (TUS)
- Users and Profiles
- Word Filters
- Shared Media Web API
Originally released in 2013, PlayStation 4 is more than 10 years old now, with the PlayStation 5 already having had its fifth anniversary. Despite the age, new games for the PS4 are still being released, so it’s unclear what type of impact the lack of features will have on the new games.
Despite new games coming out for the console, though, it seems that Sony is beginning to at least consider phasing out the PS4 from its cycle of consoles. With rumors that a PlayStation 6 is also in the works, it’ll be interesting to see how Sony proceeds with its past console.
