PS3 fans are prepaing to say goodbye to an awesome long-running feature next month as it prepares to shut down. Earlier today, users of PS3’s Netflix app were greeted with a message informing them that the streaming giant will no longer support the platform after this month.
PS3 Netflix feature shutting down in March 2026
Netflix had an incredible run on the PS3, where users could still get an ad-free experience on a good ol’ CRT in 4:3 ratio.
“Unfortunately, Netflix will no longer be available on this device after March 2, 2026,” the notice reads. “Visit netflix.com/supporteddevices to see a list of supported devices.”
Out of curiosity, I visited Netflix’s website to see if the company provided a reason for pulling the plug on the PS3 (not that we need one at this point), but couldn’t find any more info.
PS4/PS4 Pro users can continue to access Netflix for the foreseeable future.
“I JUST mentioned Netflix for the PS3 earlier today. This is tragic,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “They dropped Wii, and even 3DS and Wii U support sooner! Cool it lasted this long on a 2006 console,” another added.
Meanwhile, a user reminded fellow PS3 owners that Universal Media Server “still exists and it’s very easy to setup and get your legally ripped media streaming to your PS3.”
