PS Plus Now Best Deal in Gaming After Xbox Game Pass Price Increase

Microsoft recently announced that it is making changes to its online gaming service, Xbox Game Pass. That includes another price hike for its most extensive and expensive plan. These changes officially mean Sony’s PS Plus service is now the cheaper option for players who may own both consoles.

Xbox Game Pass is more expensive than PS Plus

The revamped Xbox Game Pass plans include three plans: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate (sounds familiar). Essential will cost $9.99 per month, Premium costs $14.99 per month, and Ultimate will now cost $29.99 per month. Each of these plans includes more games than its comparable tier from Microsoft’s previous plans. For example, the Essential plan will include over 50 games instead of over 25 games from the previous Core subscription. These changes begin today.

In comparison to PS Plus’ three tiers, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate’s price hike means Sony’s service is now technically the cheaper option, and potentially a better deal than Microsoft’s now $29.99 subscription.

The main draws for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate are the 400+ games, day-one releases, and access to other services like Ubisoft+ Classic, EA Play, and now Fortnite Crew. For $19.99 per month, this was a fairly solid deal; however, with the price now increased to $29.99 per month, affordability is in question, especially given the rise in prices for Xbox consoles.

In comparison, PS Plus Premium includes free monthly games, access to over 600 games (spread between Game Catalog, Classics Catalog, and Ubisoft+ Classics), Game Trials, and free movies with the Sony Pictures Catalog. Arguably, this is a fairly comparable service to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, except for the inclusion of day-one first-party releases. Despite that one caveat, PS Plus Premium costs $17.99 a month, which is $12 less than Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
