October is almost here, so you know what that means? Another month of PS Plus Essential games for PS5 players to add to their library. Although the lineup has yet to be formally revealed by Sony, a recent report names one of the titles reportedly on the list, which happens to be a perfect game to play during the month of Halloween.
What is the big PS Plus Essential October game?
According to a new report from Dealabs, the critically acclaimed survival horror game Alan Wake 2 will be part of the PS Plus Essential October games lineup. Like other months, there should be more games available for subscribers to redeem, but Remedy Entertainment’s long-awaited sequel will act as the “headliner” of the lineup, according to the report.
If Sony opts for its typical timing for its PS Plus Essential lineup announcement, the full reveal should occur on October 1. However, there is a PlayStation State of Play happening today, at 5 p.m. ET, which is another avenue the company could take for announcing the lineup.
When Alan Wake 2 was originally released in 2023 for the PS5, it received great scores. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average score of 89 across 71 critic reviews. In our review, we gave it a 6 out of 10.
“Its narrative has a few memorable moments and is able to periodically use its outlandish antics to its advantage, yet it is still dragged down by its refusal to provide enough rewarding resolutions to its litany of riddles,” reads our review. “Alan Wake 2 doesn’t improve on what made the original such a cult hit and is instead an uncharacteristically rough draft that needed more edits. It’s not a lake or an ocean. It’s a disappointment.”
PS Plus subscribers can claim three games as part of the September lineup. Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder can be redeemed as part of a PS Plus Essential, Extra, or Premium subscription until October 7.
