Partially responsible for the battle royale craze, PUBG: Battlegrounds is ending legacy support in just a few hours. This means the PS4 version of the lauded shooter will no longer be playable on the last-gen PlayStation console.

PUBG on PS4 is shutting down in just a few hours

Originally announced in August, PUBG Studios announced that it would be ending support for the PS4 version of PUBG: Battlegrounds tomorrow, November 13. Specifically, the last time players will be able to play the popular battle royale on PS4 will be before its live server maintenance on that day. In the blog post regarding the end of legacy support, the reasoning behind this decision is to give players a better experience that is more in line with current-gen games.

“This shift is a necessary step toward aligning PUBG Console with current-gen consoles,” reads the blog post. “To provide our players with a more stable gameplay environment on console and ensure a smoother, more seamless experience with future updates, we’ve decided to transition to current-gen consoles. Following this transition, console players will see improved visuals and more stable frame rates. In addition, we expect to reduce ongoing crash issues through memory-related optimizations.”

PUBG Studios did state that refunds for Battlegrounds Plus and PUBG: Battlegrounds will be handled by the platform. Which means customers will have to reach out to PlayStation’s customer support to see if they are eligible for a refund.

PUBG: Battlegrounds is available on PS5, and it is free-to-play. This means PlayStation players will not need its online gaming service, PlayStation Plus, to play the game online.

When PUBG: Battlegrounds (formerly known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) was originally released for PC, it received solid reviews from critics. On the review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average score of 86 across 46 critic reviews.
