The highly anticipated 10th generation of Pokémon, set to release on Nintendo Switch in 2027, is back in the news once again.
According to new information shared by BallGuy on the social media platform X, there have been changes in the game’s leadership. Hiroyuki Tani and Katsuhiko Ichiraku are taking over as director and co-director of Pokémon Winds & Waves.
If these two names ring a bell, it’s because Hiroyuki Tani was the director of the DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield, while Katsuhiko Ichiraku was the director of the DLC for the latest game, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Both of these expansions were fairly well-received, which should bode well for the continued development of Generation 10 on Switch 2.
Prior to this change, Shigeru Ohmori was at the helm of several major titles: Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and even the highly acclaimed Pokémon Sun & Moon and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on Nintendo 3DS. According to the latest reports, he isn’t stepping away from the franchise entirely, as he is reportedly working on Generation 11.
