Pocketpair (Palworld) won’t use generative AI for its future games

While artificial intelligence is widely adopted by large companies specializing in video games, a few studios have chosen to resist this trend. This is the case, for example, with Pocketpair, the company behind Palworld.

In an interview with Game Developer, John Buckley, Pocketpair’s communications and publishing manager, said that his teams will not be using AI. Nor do they plan to use NFTs or create Web3 titles.

“People are going to say I’m lying, but these are just the hard facts. We don’t believe in it. We’re very upfront about it. If you’re big on AI stuff or your game is Web3 or uses NFTs, there are lots of publishers out there [who’ll talk to you], but we’re not the right partner for that.”

Palworld found itself at the center of controversy when internet users accused the developers of using artificial intelligence to translate the game into several languages. Buckley formally denied these accusations.

It’s interesting to see Pocketpair’s stance on generative AI in game development. Choosing to focus on traditional methods could lead to some unique and creative outcomes. It’ll be exciting to see how their approach shapes the future of their games!
