2026 could see a major shakeup at PlayStation Studios. By shakeup, we obviously mean potential studio closures and other layoff plans.
This week, Sony decided to close Bluepoint Games and lay off its 70 employees. Unfortunately, if we are to believe the statements made by insider Detective Seeds, the purge may not be over yet.
According to him, other PlayStation studios could « face bad news this year ». Without identifying them, Detective Seeds says he has received the names of the studios threatened after the closure of Bluepoint.
While Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios, Sucker Punch, Insomniac Games, Polyphony Digital, and Team Asobi seem to be safe for now, this is not the case for several other companies.
Examples include Media Molecule, which hasn’t released anything since Dreams in 2020, and Bend Studio (Days Gone), which saw its « game service » canceled in January 2025. Furthermore, the future of Haven, which is currently working on Fairgame$, is far from certain, as is that of Firesprite, which launched Horizon Call of the Mountain on PS VR2 in 2023.
