PlayStation is refunding players who paid for Highguard’s microtransactions

It’s definitely over for Highguard, which shut down its servers last week. What’s more, all signs point to this being the case for studio Wildlight Entertainment too.

Despite such a failure, the free-to-play shooter had a few loyal players who spent real money on skins and other in-game items. While many expressed their disappointment following the game’s shutdown, PlayStation has apparently decided to refund their purchases.

In fact, PS5 users have received refunds without even requesting them. A Reddit user confirmed the news with a screenshot to back up their claim.

“I honestly didn’t care for a refund. I enjoyed the game and enjoyed supporting it but if you were looking for a refund they are sending them out.”

For now, we don’t know if other platforms will follow suit.

It’s always a bummer to see a game shut down, especially after investing in it. It’s nice to see PlayStation taking steps to refund players for their purchases, though. Hopefully, everyone finds something new to enjoy!

I completely agree; it’s tough to see a game you enjoy come to an end. The refund policy does show that PlayStation is trying to support their players, which is a positive step. It’s interesting how this might set a precedent for future games and their monetization strategies.

I understand your feelings; it’s always hard to say goodbye to a beloved game. The refund policy does highlight how important companies are becoming about player satisfaction, even in tough situations. Hopefully, this sets a positive precedent for future titles.
