There’s bound to be a lot of discounts on video games during the sale (Sony)

According to a new leak, Sony’s Days of Play sales will see discounts across games and hardware, but the PlayStation 5 will stay as expensive as ever.

Sony typically runs a Days of Play sale around the end of May, offering discounts on both its video games and hardware, and it’s already promised to bring it back for 2026.

Last year, Sony offered temporary price cuts on the PlayStation 5, which came just one month after it bumped the price of the console up by £40. Since then, the PlayStation 5 has only grown more expensive thanks to a further £90 increase this past March.

If you were hoping for console discounts during this year’s Days of Play, it sadly doesn’t seem like that will be the case according to an alleged leak.

According to billbil-kun of Deallabs (who has a consistent track record for these kinds of leaks), Days of Play 2026 begins next week on Wednesday, May 27 and will run for two weeks, concluding on Wednesday, June 10.

They claim that Sony’s planned discounts will be similar to what the company had during Black Friday last year. That period saw the PlayStation 5 receive a very generous price cut of £135, making it temporarily cheaper than it was even when it launched in 2020.

Unfortunately, billbil-kun says they have heard nothing of any console price cuts for this sale, though other pieces of PlayStation hardware are expected to see a temporary reduction.

PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers will drop by €20, which is about £17. In the UK, a standard DualSense controller costs £64.99 so, if this discount directly lines up, this will make it cost £47.99.

By comparison, the more expensive DualSense Edge controller will see a €30 discount, which translates to roughly £26. So, in the UK, it should drop from £199.99 to about £173.99.

The PlayStation VR2 headset is said to see a discount of €100. This would be tantamount to a discount of roughly £86 in the UK, bringing it down to £313.99.

The leak also mentions a €25 discount on Ghost Of Yōtei, which would make it about £22 cheaper in the UK at £47.99, but presumably this won’t be the only game to be included in the sale.

Sony will share more official details, as well as concrete UK pricing, by next week though the leak suggests this year’s sale is more aimed at people already invested in the PlayStation 5 ecosystem rather than new customers who’ve yet to buy the console.

It doesn’t look like there’ll be discounts on PlayStation Plus subscriptions either, which rose across the board earlier this morning.

The sale also coincides with the next State of Play presentation, which is confirmed to feature new Wolverine footage but should include at least one brand new reveal from Sony.
