PlayStation announces the introduction of age verification for its community features

Following in the footsteps of Discord and Roblox, PlayStation is set to roll out its age verification protocol for users. The Japanese company has sent an email to its players to notify them of this upcoming change.

As a result, age verification will become mandatory worldwide to send private messages or access voice chat (Party). Users who decline to complete this verification will still be able to access the brand’s other services and play normally. Only communication with other community members will be affected.

In its email, Sony states that it aims to provide “safe, age-appropriate experiences for players and families while respecting their privacy” and “meaningful control over their gaming experiences”.

Absolutely, it’s a positive move for player safety! Age verification can really help ensure that the community remains appropriate for all age groups, and it might also encourage more parents to feel comfortable allowing their kids to engage with the platform.
