PC gamers have days left to pick up 2016 award winner for free

PC users who are after a new game to play may want to jump on this free game deal before it expires.

GOG (Good Old Games) is holding another free game giveaway, this time making the 2016 game Silence available for free for all PC gamers.

Set during a devastating war, Silence is a point-and-click adventure where you play as 16 year old Noah and his little sister Renie, who both seek shelter in a bunker during an air raid.

After Renie gets lost in Silence, a world between life and death, Noah must explore the threatening realm to find her and bring her home.

Silence features dark creatures, who haunt towns and ravage whatever they can get their hands on, turning a once-idyllic place into a living nightmare. This puts Noah and Renie into the role of protectors, standing up to the monsters alongside a small rebel faction.

Silence is a nice and short game that should only take you a few hours to beat

How Long To Beat, a website used for calculating the average time it takes to beat games based on user submissions, places Silence at around 6.5 hours to complete one playthrough.

However, completionist players who want to get more out of the game can expect to be playing up to 12 hours to see and do everything.

Silence was released in 2016, where it received mixed reviews from critics. However, it did go on to receive a few awards at the Deutscher Entwicklerpreis (German Developer Award).

At the 2016 German Developer Award, Silence won Best Sound, Best Story, and Best Graphics, which put the game on the map as a cult classic. Ten years later, the game still receives positive reviews from PC gamers who are discovering it for the first time.

Now, it can be yours for free thanks to this new giveaway on GOG, which launched earlier this week.

There’s about 40 hours left on the deal, so you have a limited amount of time to go and pick up Silence if you’re interested in it.

All you need to do is create a free account on GOG, and you’ll be able to claim the game and add it to your account.

With this being a GOG release, the game is DRM-free meaning you only need the platform to download it to your computer, whether that’s via a direct download on the website or on GOG’s own client.

After you’ve downloaded it, you won’t need to connect to a service or have an active internet connection to play it, unlike clients like Steam or Epic Games which may require you to connect to play.

It’s features like this that make GOG a pretty useful platform for PC gamers. With Sony pulling back on physical releases to embrace an all-digital future on its closed platform, more gamers may find solace in open services such as GOG which allow you to keep games even if you lose access to your account.
