Octopath Traveler 0, the new RPG by Square Enix, gets some very good ratings

A major JRPG is about to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC. Octopath Traveler 0 will be available this Thursday, December 4, 2025, and the specialist press has given its verdict.

Octopath Traveler 0 currently has an average Metacritic score of 85% on PS5 (26 reviews), 80% on Switch 2 (24 reviews), and 83% on PC (10 reviews). The OpenCritic score is currently set at 82% with 38 reviews.

The game has some really good writing that tackes interesting and mature themes, the combat system works wonders, and the characters are diverse and charismatic.

On the downside, there is a lack of variety in the battles, the city-building aspect is somewhat anecdotal, the music is less memorable, and the voice acting is only available in Japanese and English.
