It has been since July 2025 that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has received any patches. Yet the game is far from perfect, and Bethesda Softworks’ RPG could have greatly benefited from longer-term support.
In a recent analysis, Digital Foundry again highlights the excessive presence of « stuttering, crashes, and other major technical issues ». According to them, the initial design phase of the project was not handled well. Add to that the Unreal Engine 5’s finicky and highly resource-intensive nature, and you end up with an unstable, buggy game.
Furthermore, performance remains disastrous when loading a save file. The frame rate continues to drop over time. For example, when starting a new game on PS5 in « Performance » mode, the game reaches 55 FPS compared to 38 FPS in the same area when continuing a game that’s already been started.
Let’s hope that the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 this year will encourage Bethesda and Virtuos to apply the necessary fixes across all versions.
