This weekend, there was a rumor making the rounds on social media and several websites. It claimed that Microsoft was considering removing XBOX games from Steam in order to promote its own platforms, be it on consoles or PCs.
Ultimately, journalist Jez Corden, who was the source of this rumor, came forward to deny the claim. He believes his comments were taken out of context. The partnership between Steam and Xbox is not currently under threat, but Microsoft may be reevaluating how it “engages with Windows gaming all up.”
“Something I said on our Xbox Two Podcast this weekend was taken a little bit out of context by some news aggregates, and it led to rumors that Microsoft was exploring quitting Steam. They are absolutely not exploring that (right now), but there is good reason to think Microsoft is evaluating how it engages with Windows gaming all up.”
PC gaming remains a priority for Microsoft, which is reportedly still investing heavily to improve the XBOX app for PC.
