Nintendo is flying high with its second-quarter fiscal results, as the Switch 2 crossed ten million units sold at a much faster rate than the original. In fact, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently revealed that they’re growing at the “fastest rate in the history of our dedicated video game platforms.”
How? Furukawa reports that 84 percent of Switch 2 owners have transitioned from the Switch 1. “This high percentage shows that many consumers who enjoyed Nintendo Switch are smoothly transitioning to Nintendo Switch 2, allowing us to maintain our relationships with them across platform generations.”
He also pointed out that there’s no “concentration period” for when players first started on the Switch 1, likely referring to the uniformly consistent sales of the consoles since 2017. Nintendo’s own first-party line-up, namely Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, has been successful thus far.
However, Furukawa also credited having “many software publishers on board from the very beginning, resulting in the most extensive launch-year line-up out of any of our dedicated video game platforms.”
“With the help of these factors, the Nintendo Switch 2 business is building a powerful foundation at a very early stage.”
Outside of hardware and software sales, the number of Nintendo Accounts surpassed 400 million individuals as of September 30th, 2025. This indicates multiple individuals sharing the same Switch to play on (barring any alternate accounts), which is good news for the company, given its push for features like GameChat and Game Share.
As for what’s next for the Switch 2 (and Switch 1), Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is out on December 4th after a cumulative eight years of development. The latest trailer is undoubtedly the best so far, highlighting all the sights, sounds and terrors of Viewros alongside Samus Aran’s new abilities. Also, the Akira Slide on Vi-0-La.

It’s exciting to see the Nintendo Switch 2 achieving such impressive sales figures! This reflects the strong interest and support from the gaming community. It’s a great time for Nintendo fans!
Absolutely, it’s great to see the Switch 2 thriving! It’s fascinating how strong software support, like major titles and exclusive games, plays a crucial role in driving those sales. Nintendo’s ability to innovate while maintaining a beloved brand is really paying off.
Indeed, the software lineup has played a huge role in its success! It’s also interesting to note how Nintendo’s focus on family-friendly games appeals to a broad audience, which likely contributes to those impressive sales numbers.
