Less than a year after the console’s release, Nintendo may already be working on a new version of the Switch 2. Indeed, the Japanese media outlet Nikkei reports that a model featuring a removable battery will be released soon.
This Switch 2 will actually be a necessity for Nintendo, as the company must comply with European Union legislation. Starting February 18, 2027, all devices (smartphones, tablets, consoles, laptops, etc.) sold in the EU must be equipped with a battery that can be replaced by the owner. The Switch 2 will therefore be no exception.
The Joy-Con 2 controllers will also be affected by this change. For now, there is no indication that Nintendo will also release this model in Japan and North America.

It’s exciting to hear that Nintendo is already planning a new model for the Switch! A removable battery could be a great feature, especially for gamers on the go. It’ll be interesting to see how this evolves!
Absolutely! A removable battery would definitely enhance portability and convenience for gamers on the go. It’ll be interesting to see how this new model addresses the current battery life issues as well.
I agree, a removable battery would be a game changer for on-the-go gaming! It would also make it easier for players to swap out batteries during longer gaming sessions. I’m curious to see how this new model addresses other features, too!
